How Are Kitchen Cabinets Made and Installed?
Custom kitchen cabinets are a wonderful addition to your kitchen, but how are they made? And what’s needed to install them? We have some kitchen remodeling tips that you might find helpful in this article if you’re planning on ordering custom cabinets for the first time—or if you’re just interested in the process.
It Begins with Quality Materials
Custom kitchen cabinets are made with high-quality wood like maple, walnut, or cherry. They can also be made with MDF and other alternative materials that still offer a beautiful and long-lasting product.
For wood, the pieces are processed, cut, and shaped and shipped to our factory where we use them to create custom pieces that fit your needs. After you call or come to our showroom and ask for a free quote or estimate, we then use custom technology to create a design based on what you’re looking for. Our team will take measurements of your space to see what’s feasible, and offer you a quote for the cost of the cabinetry.
Then, Construction Begins
Once the materials have been chosen and the design has been approved, we will come out for a final measure and get started on creating your cabinets. We design and create the cabinets at our factory. The materials are cut to the exact dimensions we need in order to construct the custom designs. After building the boxes for your cabinetry, we install the drawers and attach the doors.
We have special equipment designed to create both beautiful raised panel and flat panel doors that offer depth and texture to your space. We hand-sand the materials using high-powered sanders and lock all the pieces in place.
Next, Installation
When it comes to installation, we’re more than happy to work alongside your general contractor if you have one. When we ship the cabinets to you, we’ll store them properly for your contractor in your home so they can get started on the project. We don’t install cabinets ourselves, and this will of course be discussed during the consultation phase of your project.
If you’re familiar with custom cabinet installation, then you can of course install them yourselves. But we recommend going with a professional who has experience in this area. A contractor will review the layout that we’ve created and begin securing the cabinets to the wall with quality screws and fasteners. Depending on the size of the project, the timeline for finishing can differ greatly, so make sure you have an open line of communication with your contractor.
After your cabinets are installed, it’s important to maintain them and develop good aftercare habits. Water is the enemy to cabinets, so make sure you keep cabinetry dry. To clean them, don’t use abrasive products or materials—a small amount of dish soap and a damp towel r will do just fine.
